Rebecca Sichon releases “Picking Petals” for 604 Sessions

With an aim to help unsigned artists develop and share their music, 604 Sessions is a great opportunity to discover emerging talent. In 2021, 604 Records held their inaugural song camp with various Canadian artists who were interested in creating original new songs with experts in the field. Selected finalists then went on to release two singles through a series called the 604 Sessions last year. Through these sessions, we received music from artists like Tafari Anthony and Merseh, each track highlighting the singing and songwriting capabilities of these up-and-coming musicians. This year’s lineup includes Rebecca Sichon, who has captivated audiences over the years with her two EPS, a handful of singles, and hundreds of live shows. In 2020 and 2021, she received the Pop Artist of the Year award at the Fraser Valley Music Awards before receiving an award as the R&B Artist of the Year in 2022. Her unique pop-meets-R&B sound is setting her up for an incredible career, and with her first release for the 604 Sessions, she is embarking on an exciting new chapter.

A play on the whole “He loves me, he loves me not” trope, “Picking Petals” tries to establish some middle ground. Co-written with the notable Colin Janz, “Picking Petals” delivers a moody production that matches its conflicting lyrics as Rebecca soulfully sings about the process of navigating new love. Against the lively rhythms and melodies, she sings, “God knows that I’ve been here before / All I want is for him to know / That I’m sick of ripping this rose” and “You pull that, push back / What’s up with that?” desperate for answers. You can check it out in the live performance video below.

Telling us more about “Picking Petals,” Rebecca explains,

“On ‘Picking Petals,’ I wanted to explore the fun (and not so fun) side of the age-old question, ‘Does he love me? Does he love me not?’ It’s my playful take on the back-and-forth we sometimes experience with new love against an upbeat electro-pop sound.”

You can listen to “Picking Petals” on platforms like SoundCloud, Apple Music, and Spotify.

Look out for Rebecca’s second release for the 604 Sessions, “Breaking Free,” coming soon.
