Full Bio

Armchair Cynics are a four-piece rock band from Victoria, BC, known for creating melodic, emotionally driven songs with an edge. With soaring hooks, beefy rhythms, and finely crafted song writing skills, their sound still resonates 20 years later.
Their 2005 EP Killing the Romance captured the raw, brooding intensity of its era. This EP cemented their spot in Canada’s modern rock scene with its big emotional moments and high production value. In 2009, the band released Starting Today, an album that embraces their pop side and adds a more boisterous, expressive personality to their catalogue.

Killing The Romance:

Released in 2005, Killing the Romance is a seven-track EP that introduced Armchair Cynics to a national audience. Produced by Joey Moi, Chad Kroeger, Dave Genn, and Warne Livesey, the EP blends alternative rock with melodic hooks and emotionally driven lyrics. Tracks like “Bang” and “Surprise Ending” gained radio play and helped establish the band within Canada’s modern rock scene.

Starting Today:

Starting Today, released in 2009, marks a shift toward a more pop-influenced sound while keeping the band’s original rock foundation. Produced by Dave Genn, the album features upbeat melodies, synth elements, and a broader stylistic range. Songs like “Kelly,” “Ablaze,” and the title track reflect a more expressive and mischievous side of the band, expanding their musical identity beyond their earlier heavier sound.
