Exclusive Premiere: Watch Michaela Slinger’s New Acoustic Video for “Don’t Wait” | Aesthetic Magazine

Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Michaela Slinger is back with an acoustic video for her track “Don’t Wait”, which you can watch exclusively via Aesthetic Magazine below.

On the track, Michaela notes: “I wrote half of Don’t Wait in my living room the day before I left for my first-ever Toronto trip, and finished it across the country alone in a writing room as part of a two-month intensive music program. That speaks to the meaning of the song: it’s about me realizing that the beauty of being in a relationship with someone also comes with the great responsibility of having their heart in my hands, and worrying that I’m not going to live up to what they deserve.” She continues, “Don’t Wait gets at the simultaneous euphoria of being in love and the quiet internal questioning about whether I can give that person what they’re worth as I pursue my own dreams.”

Infectious yet soothing, Slinger combines youthful, energetic, and harmony-rich melodies with old soul lyricism — think Maggie Rogers meets Joni Mitchell. Slinger’s background of musical theatre makes her a compelling live performer whether she’s dancing to high-tempo tracks or alone with her guitar for an acoustic song. Slinger independently released her successful debut single, “Flux” (prod. by Nygel Asselin) in July 2019. Post-Flux, Slinger’s career began taking new shape: she was accepted as one of two fully-funded artists to complete Canada’s Music Incubator in Toronto, and returned home to play Vancouver’s historic Vogue Theatre as a finalist in the Elevate Music Project. Less than a year later, Slinger’s career has come full circle, releasing brand new music on a freshly minted record deal.

Infusing the best of contemporary pop with her songwriting prowess, Slinger‘s new music is just a hint of what’s to come from her forthcoming debut full length release next year.
